Abbey England Proud to Sponsor Local Young Driver

Young carriage driver, Michael Hodgson (16) has secured sponsorship from local company Abbey England and is looking forward to competing this season with his feisty pony pair.

Michael is taking the driving world by storm with his unstoppable ponies Brownie and Pumpkin who recently won the open pony pairs at Holker Hall. They then rounded off the season in style with a ‘most memorable moment of the year’ award at the BHTDA AGM for their brilliant obstacles at Windsor.

Based in Cheshire, Michael started horse riding aged four and when he started to outgrow his beloved Shetland ponies, decided to start driving. Explains Michael: “I started carriage driving because I knew that before long I would be too big to ride Blackie and Brownie...but I would always be able to drive them.”

The team of Shetlands, Pumpkin, Blackie and Brownie are bitted by Abbey England with their British-made quality driving bits. Peter Phillips of Abbey England is delighted to support Michael: “We are always keen to support local talent and Michael is an excellent driver, we are confident he is going to have a fantastic 2012, we will be supporting him every step of the way.”
